Who is Jared Thompson?
I am a 21 year old Product Design graduate from Bolton
(Greater Manchester) England.
Product Design Educated designer, with a keen interest in all things design. I run my own design site over at http://www.designjuices.co.uk and love to write on all aspects of design. Currently on the lookout for my first design job, freelance or otherwise.
Why Product Design? What Inspires me?
Within Product Design I have picked up several great influences in my
design ethics and aesthetics, and I owe a great deal of thanks to my teachers
at College for my Design influences. I have a great deal of love
for the Bauhaus
design movement, this modernist movement inspired many of today’s
designers and it was such a great inspiration when first designing. I
love the simplicity and modernist styles from which the Bauhaus
designers all worked towards. I think a personal design icon has got to
be Dieter Rams.
Dieter
Rams is a designer from Germany who changed the whole make-up of Braun
electronics to a more functional product design process, his work
is most know for his ‘ten
principles of design.‘ Someone which I have been massively
influenced in my education of design who was also heavily influenced by
Dieter Rams, is Jonathan
Ive. His work for Apple has turned there fortunes around massively,
would the iPod
and iMac
have been what they are today without the industrial design knowledge
and styles of Jonathan
Ive?
My Personal ‘Design Mantra.’
I have developed a specific skill set in design which incorporates
the ethics and design styles of the Bauhaus design movement and the
modern simplicity of Jonathan Ive. I have also taken a lot of
inspiration from the Ford ‘Kinetic
Design‘ movement and would also claim to be inspired by
designers such as Daniel
Eatock and Dieter Rams especially. I love to spent time writing
and researching all aspects of design; web, graphic, industrial and
many more. I have a keen interest in writing for other design sites
where I have built up a large design community of friends and
acquaintances across the many online social network streams;
such as Twitter,
Stumbleupon,
Flickr,
DeviantART
& Facebook.
